Many developers have encountered problems when testing their networking MIDlets on the Sony Ericsson T6xx and Z600 devices. A very common cause of this is the WAP profile settings. Many operators choose to have multiple APN's (Access Point Names) for different kinds of data transaction. For example, WAP browsing can use an APN setting, different from e.g. the APN used for MMS or general Internet connections (for using the phone as a modem to a PC) etc.
To overcome this problem, you have to contact your network operator and get the settings for "general Internet connections" and enter them on your phone. If you have to enter them manually, select "Menu -> Connectivity -> Data comm. -> Data accounts" and "Menu -> Connectivity -> WAP options -> WAP profiles" to enter the information required.
To assist you to set up your "connection profiles" (Data accounts and WAP profiles), many network operators offer a website where you can request all settings as an OTA (Over The Air) push message. All Sony Ericsson phones support OTA, including the T610, so use this service if available, to get all connection profiles. Sony Ericsson also offers OTA WAP configuration settings from its web site www.sonyericsson.com/support.
The final step is to remember to select this newly created profile as your default profile before running the Java application. Note that the WAP profile is "linked" to a data account, which means that you only have to select one of the WAP profiles to make the change. |
