Mobile Entertainment magazine's inaugural ME Awards shone the spotlight on the entire mobile content business on September 19, 2006. Mobile Entertainment's editorial staff had picked out nominees/finalists from a broad section of the mobile entertainment industry in 18 different categories. The award winners were then ultimately decided by a 300-strong panel of industry experts in the weeks leading up to the awards ceremony.
Sony Ericsson was a finalist for and won the "Best Handset Company Award" with the motivation:
