Sony Ericsson was the only mobile phone manufacturer to both announce and demonstrate a new smartphone at The Smartphone Show in London, October 11-12, 2005.
| And the new P990 created a lot of excitement.
Developers were very keen to learn more about this Symbian OS The Sony Ericsson team were on hand to demonstrate the new features of the the P990 including UMTS, WiFi, 2 Megapixel camera and large QVGA touch screen, as well as explain the go-to-market opportunities. Tech Support Live! feedback As the UIQ 3 software platform and Symbian OS v9.1 are new, Sony Ericsson anticipated that it would take some time for applications to be created for the P990 which is why the new smartphone was announced well in advance of market availability (Q1 2006). And this generated lots of questions at the Tech Support Live! section of the Sony Ericsson booth. |

Developers wanted to know the major differences between UIQ 2.1 and the new UIQ 3.0. In addition to UIQ 3.0 not being backwards compatible with UIQ 2.1, the other main differences are:
Curiosity over P990 functionality and features kept Magnus Soderman, Software Engineer from Sony Ericsson Developer World, busy with lots of interested developers who also wanted to discuss the P910 smartphone.

Device playground
The smartphone evolution from the P800 based on Symbian OS v7.0 and UIQ 2.0 through to the P910 based on UIQ 2.1 was also on show at the Sony Ericsson booth, where visitors could test a selection of applications from partners in the popular Device Playground.
