Docs & Tools survey winning idea

[Back]

The results are in from April's Docs & Tools survey. With 440 responses, the Developer World Docs & Tools team would like to thank you for your useful ideas and valuable feedback.

A lot of the ideas covered how to improve the popular Themes Creator tool and how to format content for Sony Ericsson mobile phones. Other ideas were more general dealing with the areas of music and video.

Generally many of the suggestions reflected some of our own ideas on how we could improve the documentation and tools portfolio, though one idea in particular was unique.

Winning proposal: "Game skeleton"
The winning idea is a proposal to provide reference implementations of typical game designs and optimization techniques together with re-useable code libraries. This idea could be applied on both Java ME and Symbian OS platforms and cover areas such as playing multiple sound sources, using threads correctly or using 3D engines effectively.

The idea could also be applied to other types of applications such as showing Model View Controller (MVC) design or optimal network handling and become a Java ME equivalent to the existing Java EE blueprints

The winner has been notified and will be soon receiving a W900 Walkman phone. Congratulations!

We will be taking the winning idea, along with all you feedback from the survey, into consideration as we plan future Docs & Tools to support your development work.
