On February 14, 2006, Sony Ericsson announced that applications from 11 UIQ 3 partners have been selected for preload on the P990's accompanying Memory Stick. This follows previous announcement at The Smartphone Show in October 2005 introducing the UIQ 3-based P990 smartphone to the global developer community and Sony Ericsson Developer World's continued support of partners in the development of applications for the new UIQ 3 software platform.
Sony Ericsson Developer World also provides Symbian OS
v9.1, UIQ 3.0 Tips, Tricks & Code, UIQ 3-related Docs & Tools and Symbian Signed Developer Certificate (DevCert) information to help professional developers create new UIQ 3 applications for Sony Ericsson phones.
32MB of the standard 64MB available on the Memory Stick included with the P990 is reserved for partner applications. The applications from the 11 confirmed preload partners so far are presented in the gallery below and cover business and productivity, security, entertainment, translation and mobile navigation. These are Try & Buy versions*, and will have direct links to the Sony Ericsson Application Shop for download and purchase of the full versions directly from the phone.

SMOBILE Systems: SMSGuard

SMOBILE Systems (formerly known as FB-4) creates mobile security software to prevent intrusions and data compromises. Their SMSGuard is an application that lets the P990 user filter incoming text messages to successfully block messages from unauthorized senders without interrupting authorized messages. * Try and Buy applications have some limitations. Some software and user guides may not be localized for all markets. Similarly some products may only be supported in certain languages or service coverage may be limited. Some products may be unavailable in certain markets or at first launch date. The minimum requirement in order to have an application distributed globally by Sony Ericsson is to support at least the EFIGS (English, French, Italian, German and Spanish) languages and traditional Chinese.
