Around 80 content-oriented exhibitors made mobile entertainment the magnet for 3GSM's 50,000 visitors. This year's event, from February 13-16, drew record breaking pre-registrations with 40% more exhibitors than 2005. Sony Ericsson had its own share of exciting news for both consumers and developers. Here's a quick summary, including presentations to download from UIQ Technology's Developer Track event.
The annual 3GSM World Congress is now over having generated plenty of exciting news from all over the mobile industry.

Sony Ericsson announcing new phones
During 3GSM World Congress Sony Ericsson announced three new phones:

Introducing the W950 to the press Held at a downtown bar in Barcelona, Sony Ericsson on the first day of 3GSM World Congress hosted a media event for 230 journalists from around the globe. The event included a presentation by Miles Flint, President of Sony Ericsson. In addition, there was attendance from several celebrity guests including tennis professional Justine Henin-Hardenne, as well as world-renowned DJ Judge Jules, who demonstrated the first ever "Mobile Mix", followed by an exclusive two hour set for the attending guests. "Mobile mix" launch is music to the ears of Miles Flint, President, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications.

Sony Ericsson Developer World news
Additional news included the first UIQ 3-based applications from partners being selected for preload with the new Sony Ericsson P990, the launch of a new look for this web site, the new forum ranking and reward system and membership structure of Sony Ericsson Developer World as well as the launch of the Sony Ericsson Application Shop with new content distribution partner Motricity.
UIQ Developer Track at 3GSM
Sony Ericsson participated in UIQ Technology's Developer Track on February 15, 2006. The day was full of practical presentations aimed at developers and Business Development Managers from developer organizations.
During his presentation, Mark Donohoe, Principle Software Engineer at Sony Ericsson, focused on the technical requirements for developing applications for the new Sony Ericsson UIQ 3-based phones, the P990, M600 and W950. He took an in-depth look at what is needed to maximize the potential of these phones.

Jens Greve, Acquisition Manager, Utility Applications (Deputy Head of Content Acquisition and Partner Management) at Sony Ericsson spoke about the so-called "application gap". Jens manages the partner relationship with high profile application developers targeting Sony Ericsson's GSM/UMTS phones around the world to ensure that business and productivity applications are created for our Java
ME and Symbian OS
-based phones and are made available for end-users to download.
In his presentation, Jens examined the types of applications that UIQ 3-based phones are capable of, looking at what the market needs and what end-users want, helping identify the type of applications that developers should be creating to maximize business success.
