[Back]

At Ericsson's annual Mobile Application Awards, top-notch developers received praise and rewards for their innovative applications. Sony Ericsson was competition partner, and  the gala awards ceremony took place in Zurich, Switzerland, on December 1.

This year's competition was hard, with more than 200 applications submitted in four categories: enterprise, information, gaming and entertainment. All of the 12 applications that made it to the finals had already been launched commercially. The Ericsson Mobile Application Award winners were selected by a jury and SMS votes from the audience of 400 Ericsson Mobile Internet Forum participants.

The winners of Ericsson Mobile Application Awards 2004 were:

  • Enterprise: German developer Gavitec with Lavasphere, an end-to-end solution for reading optical codes such as bar codes from mobile phones.
  • Information: Swedish developer Wayfinder with EuroNavigator, a GPS-based mapping and navigation solution where phone users can download maps and detailed site information directly to their phone (the application was also demonstrated on the P910 in Sony Ericsson booth at the October Symbian Expo in London - read separate article).
  • Gaming: Hong Kong-based developer Artificial Life Inc. with V-Girl – Your Virtual Girlfriend, a virtual and graphically-advanced 3D world inside the phone where the objective is to help the girl Vivian through life.
  • Entertainment: Swedish developer Softhouse with Twin Factor, an MMS-based application where users send in a picture and in return receive a sequence where the person in the picture morphs into the celebrity which most resembles them.
