Our Developer Day is focused on mobile Java applications development, discussing how the latest range of JSRs enables developers to create new types of applications for productivity, enterprise, infotainment and gaming use. CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment 2005 is promoting itself as "One Show with Two Personalities", with both an Enterprise and Entertainment track.
The Sony Ericsson Developer Day agenda follows a similar line. In the morning we concentrate our efforts on productivity style applications, and then after lunch, we focus on mobile infotainment and gaming.

Java productivity applications We begin the day with an overview of Sony Ericsson and our view of the current market for developers creating Java applications. We then progress to a more detailed study of the opportunities offered by the latest JSRs, the improved capability of Sony Ericsson mobile phones and ultimately what this will mean for the consumer. A technical presentation about end-to-end applications for mobile, relying on various web services, will follow by a spec lead from Sun.

Mobile TV, mobile music and imaging Convergence of entertainment mobile devices is currently a hot topic within the industry. The afternoon sessions begin with mobile entertainment and infotainment, the market appeal for this kind of services, the opportunities in mobile TV, music and imaging applications and Sony Ericsson's support for developers in these areas.
Mobile Gaming The gaming market is maturing and evolving with Mobile Java 3D technology being one of the key drivers within the mobile gaming landscape. You'll get an introduction to the graphics, tools and plug-ins available for Sony Ericsson game development, designed to help you get ahead in this competitive arena. Upstart Games, a publisher of mobile games, will present a technical case study in Mobile Java 3D. |

Question and answer session As a round up of the day, we will host a panel session for you to ask all of the speakers the questions that you feel still need answering.

Jens Greve, Partner Manager of Sony Ericsson Developer World will also participate in a panel session moderated by Seamus McAteer of M:Metrics and other panelists from ESPN, Sprint, Square Enix and Nokia. Entitled "Games: Taking Wireless Gaming to the Next Level: Platforms, Devices, and Graphics…What's Coming Next?" this panel session will take place during the CTIA-IT Games Mini-Conference on September 27th from 1:20 PM to 2:20 PM in Room 2004.
The panel will discuss the platforms (J2ME, WGE, ExEn etc) and technologies (EVDO etc) that are expected to enhance the gaming experience and drive adoption, as well as the technical demands of multiplayer gaming, whether or not wireless handsets will have to provide a gaming experience closer to that of console games, and give a status update on the push toward 3D Graphics. Jens Greve, Partner Manager of Sony Ericsson Developer World Jens has been with Sony Ericsson since the start of the joint venture in 2001. Jens manages the partner relationship with high profile Java game developers around the world to ensure that games are created for Sony Ericsson phones and made available to consumers for download.
Jens has also been responsible for all technical support services provided to developers through Sony Ericsson Developer World. This includes infrastructure, hosting services and functional maintenance/development of the web portal, email support, discussion forums, tips and code samples, phone loan and sales to development partners.

Ulf Wretling, Director, Head of Content Development, Sony Ericsson Ulf is globally responsible for content development and third party applications for Sony Ericsson GSM/UMTS phones. He has more than 10 years of experience working with both fixed and mobile systems at Ericsson. For the past five years he has been working on the consumer side with the mobile phone business, and has been responsible for building the Developer Program within Sony Ericsson.
The Content Development department is responsible for filling the Sony Ericsson Fun & Downloads site and Application Shop with useful applications and entertaining games for Sony Ericsson's Java and Symbian OS based phones, and building Content Alliances with recognized brand names in the music and entertainment industry for mobile use. |
