1. Log in at submit.sonyericsson.com

Use your Developer World username and password to log in to the site. If you have forgotten your password, or need to create an account at Developer World, follow the link or go to developer.sonyericsson.com to find out more.

2. Complete your account information

When you first log in, you will see your basic details from your Developer World account. We need extra information to be able to process application submissions and, of course, payments, if your application is selected for distribution.

Payment information

A red star symbol (*) indicates mandatory information which you must supply. You must enter your bank details even if your content is free of charge. Please ensure that your bank details are correct before any application is deployed.

SWIFT/BIC and IBAN are codes commonly used to identify bank accounts for international money transfers. You may find these details are printed on your bank statement; otherwise please check with your bank.

Tip: IBAN is not required for bank accounts outside the European Union; enter 234234.

ABA Routing Number and Transit Number are used to facilitate transfers to bank accounts in the USA.

3. Main View

You now reach the main view where all your submissions are listed. Because you are just starting, there will be no submissions in the list. Select Submit New Application to continue.

4. Submit procedure

Before you begin you must accept the legal agreement for submission and distribution. You may need other people in your organization to check it, so it’s available as a PDF download too.

5. Submit procedure – step 1 – basic information

Start by entering your content type.

Content type determines the section of PlayNow™ arena in which your content appears:

Applications

Games category in PlayNow™ arena

Panels XPERIA™ Panels are categorized like applications

Tip: You select the Platform (e.g. Symbian) in step 3 later on.

Next, select the category (“Genre”) that best represents your content:

Next, enter the basic details of your application. Please enter these details as you would like them to appear on PlayNow™ arena; in other words, describe your application as it should appear to a retail consumer.

We need at least two “cover images”, sized to 170 x 170 pixels, and 120 x 150 pixels, plus a screenshot, sized 170 x 170 pixels. These are used to represent your content on PlayNow™ arena, so you should provide images that are suitable for real end users.

Tip: Upload the 48 x 48 and 70 x 70 cover images to fully control your content display. If you choose not to upload, we will generate them from a larger image.

UI Flowchart – if you can supply a UI flowchart or map of the user interface, this helps us to understand and test your application.

For example, here is the Application Name and Description as displayed in PlayNow arena, together with the 170 x 170 pixel cover image:

6. Submit procedure – step 2 – pricing

Select Free if your content is to be distributed free of charge.

For PlayNow™ arena, you can choose from charge categories one to four, which the user can pay by either premium SMS or credit card, or higher price categories 5 to 20 which are credit card only. Premium SMS is by far the most popular method of payment. Premium SMS is, however, not available in some countries or for some price categories.

For Fun & Downloads, you may select Free or price category one, two or three. These price categories differ from PlayNow™ arena. You can decide not to distribute on Fun & Downloads.

7. Submit procedure – step 3 – upload

Now you need to upload the actual content. You may need to supply several builds, for example, you may have optimized your content to work with various different phone screen sizes and created a build for each screen size. Upload the first build now. You can add more later.

This is the point where you specify the platform:

  • Java™ ME
  • Symbian
  • Windows Mobile®

Your build needs to be uploaded as a single zip file that contains all the necessary parts:

Java ME .jad and .jar files
Symbian .sis or .sisx file
Windows Mobile .cab file

Tip: If you are submitting a Java ME application for Satio, select Java ME here and then SJP5.0.0 and Satio in Step 5

Tip: Select Windows Mobile for Flash content converted to an XPERIA™ Panel using the Flash Panelizer; select Java for Capuchin or Java content using the Java Panelizer.

The evaluation procedure requires a build in the English language.

For review, your build may be unsigned. If your content is accepted, then it must be signed before it can be deployed.

8. Submit procedure – step 4 – select countries and languages

You can decide in which countries you want Sony Ericsson to make your content available. Remember that the price category you selected in step two may influence where you can distribute. Select also the languages that your content supports.

Tip: The first time you make this selection, you must select each country and language individually. You can enter a name and save that particular selection for future use. Such a saved selection is called a target profile. Next time you submit content, your selection will appear in the drop-down box.

9. Submit procedure – step 5 – select phones

Now select the phone models supported by this build. As before, you can save the selection for future use.

10. Submit procedure – step 6 – summary

Finally, the information you have entered is summarized for you.

You can add further builds either now or later on. For each new build you repeat the four steps starting from the upload:

You next select countries/languages and phones for the build. If you have accidentally specified two builds for the same phone model, an extra step helps you to resolve the conflict and allocate the correct build to each model.

11. Finished!

Your submission is now listed. In review status means that the submission is now with Sony Ericsson for review.

Click Home to get back to the main listing. Your new submission will be there.

12. What happens next?

You can check status at any time by logging in to the submission site.

After review, Sony Ericsson will send you an email telling you that your content is accepted or rejected.
