Sony Ericsson P990i - the first smartphone supporting Symbian OS v9.1 and UIQ 3

The Sony Ericsson P990i was the first smartphone to adopt Symbian OS v9.1 and the UIQ 3 software platform. It is based on the same proven concept and form factor as its successful predecessors the P800, P900 and P910.

This UMTS smartphone is WiFi enabled, has Java API support and features a 2 Megapixel camera, a 2.6 inch QVGA touch screen and a hardware keyboard beneath the flip-down keypad. Developers are able to program in both C++ and Java, taking advantage of hardware accelerated 3D graphics. The P990i supports CLDC and CDC Java environments and standard Java applications run in both flip-open and flip-closed modes.

To ensure a large number of applications are available on the new Symbian and UIQ software platform when the P990i goes on sale, Sony Ericsson has announced the smartphone well in advance of availability so that developers have time to create and certify as many applications as possible. Business and productivity features include push e-mail, anti-virus/firewall and VPN clients and a new business card scanner.

The P990i will be commerically available during Q2 2006.
