Using Bluetooth to connect Connection Proxy to JP-8 phones

VERSION 3

Created on: Dec 21, 2007 1:08 AM by admin - Last Modified:  Apr 24, 2008 8:51 AM by Sony Ericsson Developer Support

First the device must be paired with the computer.

From PC

1.     Search for BT devices on the PC.

2.     Select one of the found devices, right click and "Pair device".

Or from phone

1.     Add a new device in Settings, Connectivity, Bluetooth, My devices on the phone.

2.     Select one of the found devices and pair.

Connect BT Layer

For phones from JP-8 (TCP/IP):

Windows BT Driver

Using Windows BT you can connect to the PAN PAN User service on the phone from the PC side but not from the phone. If you try to connect the PC from the phone the phone tries to connect to a PAN Network Access Point (as well as the PAN user profile) The Network Access Point is not supported in the Windows driver and therefore the procedure fails.

1.     In Windows go to Settings, Network Connections.

2.     Right click the Bluetooth connection and select "View Bluetooth network devices".

3.     Select your device with PAN user profile (not NAP).

4.     Press Connect.

Note: It takes around 1 minute before link local IP-addresses are allocated on WinXP. Vista will be faster.

D-link BT driver

Using D-link you can connect to the PAN PAN User service from the phone but not from the PC. On the PC side only the PAN Network Access Point service is available. In our case we need the "PAN PAN user" profile which is not supported by the D-link BT PC SW. However if we connect from the phone side we can get access to the PC.

1.     On the phone go to the Settings, Connectivity, Bluetooth, My devices menu. Select your PC and press "Connect".

Note: It takes around 10 seconds before link local IP-addresses are allocated on WinXP.

Hello,

Im having some troubles getting ODD over bluetooth working on a JP8 handset. I've followed the guide. I've paired the devices under Windows XP, and gone to Bluetooth Personal Network, and get presented with the option to connect using NAP or PAN to the handset, I choose PAN as specified but it fails to connect. However NAP works fine.

Can you please let me know if there is anything I can try? I'm trying to use Location and so the device needs to be near the window, which unfortunately my USB cable doesn't reach!

Thanks

Ross
