Java ME Wiki Competition (JP-8 & MSA) - 2007

We are now continuing the wiki competitions but are now focusing on Java ME and the new packages that comes with the Sony Ericsson Java Platform 8. Java Platform 8 includes a number of new JSR's and supports JSR 248 (MSA specification).

The new JSR's are the following :

JSR 211 - Content Handler API

JSR 179 - Location API

JSR 177 - Security and Trust Services API

JSR 239 - JavaTM Binding for the OpenGL® ES API

JSR 238 - Mobile Internationalization API

JSR 229 - Payment API

JSR 226 - Scalable 2D Vector Graphics API for J2METM

JSR 180 - SIP API

JSR 234 - Advanced Multimedia Supplements (not only the camera capabilities)

 

Since this means a myriad of new exiting possibilities for developers we are very interested to get good and interesting articles on these areas that helps people to use these JSR's and demonstrate innovative ways of using them.

 

The winner will receive the W910 which support the java Platform 8. Here is the W910 product page:

The rules of the Wiki Java ME MSA contest 2007 are as follows:

1. You must be a registered member of Sony Ericsson Developer World. If you don't have an account please register here: http://developer.sonyericsson.com/user/RegisterUser.jsp

 

2. Participants must register for the contest by sending an email to developers@sonyericsson.com with subject: "Registration for WIKI Java ME MSA Contest nr 1", no later than 23:59 Central European Time (CET) 20 of October, 2007.

 

 

 

3. Your article must be submitted to the Sony Ericsson Developer World Wiki in the Java ME section : http://developer.sonyericsson.com/wiki/ , no later than 23:59 Central European Time (CET) 20 of October, 2007. 4. Editing of or adding to the submission after submission is acceptable up until 23:59 Central European Time (CET) 20 of October, 2007.

 

 

 

5. You must publish your article using your personal user account at Sony Ericsson Developer World.

 

 

 

6. Your article must be written in English.

 

 

 

7. Your article must be your own work and not infringe on any copyrights of any other 3rd party.

 

 

 

 

The contest:

To be eligible for the contest, participants shall write one or several wiki developer articles about a specific functionality of the MSA package for the Java ME platform. Example MIDlets, Commented Code samples and diagrams are more than welcome. The article shall be written in English and posted in Java ME section of the Sony Ericsson Developer World Wiki http://developer.sonyericsson.com/wiki/ . The article shall be written in English, and submitted before23:59 Central European Time (CET) 20 of October, 2007. No late entries or changes will be accepted.

 

 

Submission:

 

 

  • The article must be submitted before 23:59 Central European Time (CET) 20 of October, 2007 in to the Java ME section of the Sony Ericsson Developer World Wiki http://developer.sonyericsson.com/wiki/ during the contest period.

  • Participants must register for the contest at the event by sending an email to developers@sonyericsson.com with subject: "Registration for WIKI Java ME Contest nr 1.

 

Winner Selection:

All submitted content to the UIQ3 section in the Sony Ericsson Developer World Wiki http://developer.sonyericsson.com/wiki/ will be judged by a panel appointed by Sony Ericsson Developer World employees with qualifying skills. The winner will be selected on the following criteria:

 

  • Qualities of the article, making the user understand the subject/technology.

  • Relevance to the MSA, each article should describe one area/functionality within MSA or something that involves MSA.

  • Relevance to developers

  • Existing and urgent gaps in existing documentation including DG, previous articles, API specs.

  • Innovative use of an API

  • Quality of sample code.

  • The length (not too long, not too short), not more than 4 pages long, not less than half a page.

  • illustrations (screenshots, diagrams)

  • And last the number of submitted articles, however quality is more important than quantity.

 

Writing tips:

Each article should have

 

  • An introduction where the scope of subject is presented.

  • A description of the functionality/area to give the reader an insight about the functionality/area

  • The description should contain code example with comments.

  • A downloadable example with full source with comments that can be compiled and run in the Java ME 2.5 SDK or later without any code additions.

 

Prizes:

The winner will receive a Sony Ericsson W910i phone.

 

 

Eligibility:

This contest is open to legal entities properly registered with the authorities of any country and represented in this contest by people that are 18 years of age or older and that are a registered member of Sony Ericsson Developer World. Legal entities with Sony Ericsson employees as shareholders or employees that are also employees of Sony Ericsson as well as the immediate family members of any employee of Sony Ericsson are not eligible to participate. Entrants will be asked to provide certain information, including without limitation first and last name of the person representing the legal entity and email address.

 

 

Winners:

The names of the winners may be obtained after October 25, 2007, from Sony Ericsson Developer World (developer.sonyericsson.com). All participants will be notified via e-mail of the final outcome.
