Problem with standby theme in Satio

Hello

I have a Satio for 2 days, I tried the standby theme ''basic'' and it worked well the first two times but now everytime I set a standby theme to something else than ''Sony Ericsson'' the virtual pads(on home screen) are empty and the phone would not get access to any menu if I press one of them!

I am obliged to restart the phone so can turn back to ''Sony Ericsson''

Themes Development for Sony Ericsson Satio

Since the newly announce Satio (previously idou) is based on a Symbian Foundation OS, as a themes developer I wanted to know what level of themes support would Sony Ericsson Provide.

Since the phone is a modified version of the symbian s60, there are no current theme creator application to develop themes for that model. I faced a lot of problems with X1 as well. There were no windows mobile theme creators available in the market to support WQVGA Landscape and portrait themes for X1.

Would a themes creator be release before launch to include Satio? Or are we suppose to use the default S60 Carbide Application from Forum Nokia

Can you change the main items which are displayed in the standby theme?

I selected "Sony ericsson" standby theme but I do not want the "Recent Pictures" tab on it.

Is there a way to get rid of that tab while keeping the rest of the tabs?

Ringtone: Can not use this file

on W518aI have a M4A ringtone. If I access it through My Staff/Music/Ringtones it plays fine

But when I try to set this file as ringtone (Settings/Sounds&Alerts/Ringtone), phone responds "Can not use this file"

Why would it refuse to set a ringtone?

W810i & A2DP upgrade?

Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone out there knows if Sony is developing an upgrade for their w810i phones regarding A2DP compatibility. I bought a w810i, excited about the "Walkman phone" angle, but am terribly dismayed that it will not work with stereo Bluetooth headsets.

It's actually quite surprising that they're rolling out so many "Walkman" branded cellphones which turn out to be incompatible with stereo Bluetooth headsets. Forgive me 'cause I'm naive, but does technology like that really amp up the costs of production?

I figure Sony should be working on fixes for their most recent phones as they've also now lauched their own stereo Bluetooth headset. Any chances?

Vanishing Satio Music Player

I've had my Satio for two weeks now, and I love it.

But yesterday my Music Player completely vanished!! When I go into Media I have my normal access to my Videos and Photos, but not my Music. It was fine at 6.30pm but then just after I added some more music it vanished... I have tried restarting, checking that the memory card is sitting properly etc but not use!

Do you think a software update, or restoring factory settings should fix it?

Any help would be appreciated!!

Hello All,

I wrote an App (VS2008, CF2.0) which periodically captures and saves images from the rear cam.

Everything is working fine, except the setting of another resolution.

No matter what resolution I choose, the captured pictures always is 240x320 !

(the Emulator offers 2 Resolutions at least....but obviously my device doesn't....i will check the Resolutionlist on my device explicitly tomorrow)

I am wondering, if there are limitations to the exposed API (because with the proprietary App I get full size images)?

What is the trick??

Theme Creator 4.0 = A Lemon

I've been using TC to create themes for about 3 years. I've had 93 themes published on the internet with over a million total downloads, so I consider myself a skilled and experienced themer.

I have tried the new TC v4.0 and I'm sorry to say that it is not an improvement. If anything, I think it is a backward step.

The original UI presented each screen as a complete entity. All the title bars, menu bars, images, etc. for each individual screen were offered for editing on one page.

The new UI is a mish-mash and seems very disorganised to me.

Also, why have you not taken the oportunity to include a Media Player Skin editor? You have definately missed a trick there. Fortunately, someone is way ahead of you at Mobile9.com

Text input backround color when suggestions appear... Any way to change it?

I have a S. E. C510. A very good phone indeed.The only problem I have with it is the messages writing screen.

When I'm writing a text message, and a popup suggestion appears, the background start to fade to a dark gray... Is not a bad idea, the problem is that when you write kind of fast, is like the screen start to flash going from the original what to the gray and viceversa, and could be very tiresome for my eyes.

Is the same with all the themes, except for the orange one, the default for orange phones (uk). In this case, when I write the messages fades but to a light gray.

So it seems there is a way to change this, but I was unable to find it in the theme editor. I even look in the xml and the manual, but no luck...

Anyone have any idea how to do this! I will appretiate very much your answer...

Hi All,

I get confused with spec from new sony ericsson phone (W705) which state that it can play window media file such as .wmv and .asf.

Unfortunetly I try it yesterday and find that both file are unknown format.

I want to to add album catergories because sometime ripping complilation cd. it's hard to play that album selected. i have to set the playlist to play the complilation CD.

i tried a MPEG4 video in 3gp-container but the phone did only play back audio, no video. This led me to the conclusion that the codec is not supported and i tried a h.263 codec and it worked. is it possible that the W380 does only uspport h.263-Videos? I thought nearly all phones support MPEG4 AND h.263.

Any ideas about this?

First of all, HI

So, I have SE K510i and I'm very statisfied with it...

But it has few annoying "things" and I hope that you'll help me...

1. I can't zoom pictures... The only way to view picture in real size is to open it with photo editor but that... that's not very comfortable... so is there any java app (maybe smn could make one :D:D) which colud zoom picutres and, but not required, to zoom them in landscape mode, becasuse most of pics are for "that way of viewwing"... but as i said, only regular zoom that have some very older and cheaper phones (siemens c65 as example) would be enough...

2. in stand by, when i call acctivity menu it takes too long, for about 2 seconds every time... only exception its when i have missed call and i leave that call to "stay" in acctivity menu, then that menu is called instant, ona press of button...

so that would be it...

Low Quality in fullscreen mode w810i

Why in superb phone like w810i video player in fullscreen mode is that ugly?!

When I want to watch movie with subtitles, in normal mode is ok, but small, but in fullscreen is big and ugly! I can't read subtitles in fullscreen, because the video is that deformed(?)! In normal mode I can read it without any problems, but I want to get it in fullscreen. I don't know how it is possible, that much cheaper mobiles (sagem my x6-2, motorola e1000) can play very good video in fullscreen, and more expensive (SE k750i/w800i/w810i) can't do that!

There is nothing to do with it sience k750i, when that function was added. Video is horrible scaled!

This is not a video quality problem (160kB/s, 24fps), this same video was played on motorola and sagem my x6-2 in fullscreen, even my 6 years kid see diference between SE w810i and sagem my x6-2 with playing in fullscreen.

I know, that could be problems with add function to play 176x220 or 320x240 videos, but You can improve video quality scaled from 176x144 to 176x220 (in fullscreen)!

T290i Themes Are Incompatible With T290a.

Hey, folks! I tried scuttling together a quick theme for my T290a Sony Ericsson phone using the Themes Creator yesterday. When I try to download it, it razzes me about the Theme file being unable to work in it.

NOTE: The theme creator only has T290i as an option, and it adds that to the theme once it's saved. Not sure if that has any impact on the matter.

If anyone could, I'd like to either know how to 'fix' my themes to work anyway.

I'd like to see an example of a theme that DOES work for T290a (including pictures for titles and such).

Playing MP3 over HTTP (streaming)

Can anyone confirm that it is not possible to play MP3 files over HTTP with UIQ 3 phones (such as the M600i)? I have tried all different sorts of tricks, including putting the songs in .pls/.m3u and even .ram.

It seems to me a bit strange to write that MP3 is supported, but only when the file is physically available on the device itself. we have a service that allows people to listen to their music while on the road (which works perfectly fine on windows mobile phones).

The latest theme creator for OS X can't be installed on my Mac that uses Tiger 10.4.11 no matter I've tried to install English and Chinese version. Does anybody can use either one on Leopard or Jaguar since I suspect they aren't workable packages? I also found that Version Tracker deleted it from their server now and that makes me feel the ones in developer world are not tested and workable software. Anyway, I hope SE will correct it or let me know the new version no longer support Tiger.

"flash" desktops/menus

right...as i understand by looking around on the internet...the w550 is supposed to have flash-lite compatability and i have found on some websites videos of w550s which have "flash" desktops. these desktops are much cooler and i would like to have them on my phone., but my phone, which is a w550 does not seem to display these different desktops, even though i can see in the xml file a supposed link to a .swf file for the desktop style, i was wondering was i under some false illusion about my phone being able to display these special desktops, and if not why they do not seem to work and how i can get them to work

Camera viewfinder on Satio

What's the preferred way of drawing things on top of the camera viewfinder? We're using the camera through the CCamera class in the ECam framework.

On all S60 phones, we've been using the bitmap viewfinder method, where we get a callback regularly with a CFbsBitmap object, that we can draw on the screen with anything we like on top of the viewfinder image. Bitmap viewfinder isn't supported on Satio, so we use direct viewfinder instead, i.e. we provide an RWindow object to the camera, so the camera can draw the viewfinder all by itself without passing the image through our code. This means we haven't got any chance to draw anything on top of it, though.

One way of solving the issue is creating separate new window-owning CCoeControl objects on top of the viewfinder window - this does work, but all the windows get opaque background, obscuring the viewfinder picture. Even if we set these windows to be transparent, we don't see anything of the camera viewfinder image below, only other windows are visible through the transparent parts.

Another way would be to use CCamera::CCameraOverlay and ECamOverlay.dll, that I found mentioned in the S60 SDK. There's no header and library files available for these though. Is this the correct way to do things (e.g. is this the way that the native Satio camera application draws the indicators on top of the viewfinder) - if that's the case, how can we get the headers and library files needed?

Hi, I tried to modify the mmademo for creating a video player to play 3gp videos. It was working on the emulator. However, when I deployed it onto my SE Z800i, the following error was found on my device explorer "Cannot create a Player for: video/3gpp". I'm trying to play a 3GP video clip that has been packaged with the midlet instead of a video stream. I tried to google for a solution but in vain. I find it very difficult to transfer my music from my Pc to my phone even if i'm using the disc2phone software supplied with the phone. All the files are not transferred correctly (if they are transfered at all!!!)

improving w810i video recording

I've recently bought a W810i and noticed that it can only record at a petty resolution of 176x144px to low-quality .3gp's. This was highly unexpected, since I had an older phone, Samsung E720, that could capture high quality .mp4's at a resolution of 352 x 288, which allows to understand what is actually happening in the video... I was amazed, since an E720 has a 1.3Mpx camera, as opposed to the 2Mpx in W810i. So, the only BIG difference I find between these phones is the camera resolution and the memory card... And an E720 costs less than half of W810i...

So, is it possible that in the near future (eg. two months) firmware would allow capturing of higher resolution and quality videos? Or is it hardware-limited ?

I found this forum post that was about a week old, and there has been no response, not even from SE. I was very excited about the W810i, and was planning on purchasing it. with a 2 mp camera, I thought this would be an excellent peice of equipment. but that video capture is a sad sad joke. I have a 1.3 mp camera cellphone that captures better than that, and I see no reason to buy this phone if that quality cannot be improved. Can someone explain why all the manufacturers websites and almost any review of these phones never speak of the video recording quality? or the time length. I am a fan of the samsung a970 which also has a 2 mp camera and will record for HALF AN HOUR__ still can't find out what the resolution is. If this is the best SE can do, I'm afraid I'll have to say ado.

Can anyone help?

I'm using Theme Creator 4.05 to make a theme for a W890i.

The dropdown list in the top right of the application does not contain W890i, only W890.

I have a feeling that this may be the reason that the colours and graphics from the desktop and menu screens revert to a horrid bright green when I go to walkman mode.

Any enlightenment offered would be most welcomed.

Hi,

I am currently trying to create some themes for the new G900. However, there seems to be a lack of documentation for G900 theme building. For example, some images are composite images comprising the different look of different state. Is there any documentation of what the images should contain, what the images is used for etc.

For example the button image in the default theme shows several buttons in different states. so i am wondering where will the various states be use?

Hi,

We are implementing OMA DRM 2 and are succeded in Nokia Phones. We are able to send ROAP trigger and initiate ROAP 4 pass protocol.

But we couln't succeed in Sony Ericsson phones. We checked with SE W580 which is claimed as OMA DRM 2 supporting device.

We copied OMA DRM 2.0 protected content(ocf file) to SE W580 and
Device is connecting to the DRM rights server URL(Mentioned in protected content) and
DRM Rights server sent ROAP trigger asking to register device.

But no response from the device.

The same we could work with Nokia Devices.

Is SE W580 really supporting OMA DRM2.?

Has any one able to succeed in implenting ROAP in SE phones. If so request to be knd enough to share us some details like which device they used for testing.

Hello there. This is the first time I write here.

I just joined here coz I bought SE K800i. It is really lovely mobile

I am facing one problem

when I want to start Mobile TV service, after I choose the channel

Then I click on "Watch" and something like that message appeared.

"Connection failure Check settings. If problem persists, please contact your operator for support"

Why do you think this problem? is it from my mobile? Do I have to update it? or it is from our operator?

Note that my current mobile version is

I check 3g settings ..

I just SMS the number 2072 with the word "all"

then I receive all GPRS settings which contains the following connections:

Mobile Internet

Qtel MMS

Qtel Streaming

I am in Doha which is all covered by 3G network

It was working well with my old mobile >> Nokia N70

I was able to watch Mobile TV, all streaming services.

By the way, Mobile Internet settings are exactly the same as Qtel Streaming (just the names are different). in Streaming settings, when I change the connection into "Mobile Internet" instead of "Qtel Streaming", Then when I click on watch, I see the message "Connecting...." and the mobile freezes!!!

I've posted the same message on the Symbian UIQ forum, but wasn't sure if that was the right place and not multimedia...

I have a P900 application which uses the Sony Ericsson AMR streaming library for audio recording and playback. However, the playback volume is too low - even when setting the multimedia volume to maximium in the phone.

Is there any way to control the audio volume programmatically? The standard Mda library (CMdaAudioOutputStream) supports changing the volume, but would that affect the playback volume from the AMR streamer?

Alternatively, is there any way to convert between PCM and AMR on the device? That would allow me to use the Mda library for playback (I still need to receive AMR audio data and play it, but then I'll be able to make the conversion explicitly).

Hi everybody.

I've recently taken up designing themes for mobile phones as hobby and have been using the Theme Creator to build a couple of them for my W880.

In my last project i tried to use swf-files to create a more dynamic theme. Nothing special, I just wanted an animated Standby and Desktop screen. The problem is that I can't seem to get it to work. I've been searching the Internet for forums and definitions of Flash Lite etc but I still don't have any clue why my swf-files won't work.

My guess is that has something to do with that I've used software to convert the swf-files from an avi-video. I've tried with working with animated GIF:s as well but without success.

Is there someone who could explain what I'm doing wrong or what the limitations are? Would be nice to know as soon as possible before I put more energu into the project.

I have recently bought a SE Z530 with the idea of developing Flash Lite apps.The problem is that when I copy a swf file to the phone and try to open it nothing happens(the application works fine in the emulator supplied with Flash 8 Pro when I test it).The offical site says that there is Flash Lite on the phone,on the other hand the whitepaper for the phone says nothing about it,so I am starting to wonder if there is FL support on that phone at all.

So my question is - does Z530 support FL and if it does,how am I supposed to run my applications?On the other hand - If it doesn't why is the phone advertised to have FL support?

I have implemented VoIP, and VideoCall on a Motorola A1000 phone after obtaining the following APIs from Motorola,

- Audio API

- Telephony API

- Camera Capture API

- Video Decode APIs,

- Video Streaming API,

The APIs are not included in Symbian 9 SDK.

Now I want to implement them on the new SonyEricsson P990 phone. How can I obtain the equivalent APIs for Sony Ericsson phones ?

Our development language is C++ and the platform is Symbian 9 (UIQ 3.0 distribution)

Infoprint problem in Themes Creator

Hi!

I added a diaphanous picture for the infoprint picture that I used in an UIQ3 theme (P990). But when I have installed the theme on the phone, I can's se what's behind the infoprint. I have used several other diaphanous pictures, and they work as they shall do, but the infoprint-picture isn't diaphanous. Therefor I wounder if it isn't possible to add a diaphanous picture to as the infoprint picture.

Hii, not posting yet, but a long time using SE Themes Creators downloaded from the Site...

I am a themer on Mobile9, theming for a very long time, from T610, T630, K700, DK750,

W800, W810, W900, K800, and now for W880 and my T650i ...

Well, now in fact i do nopt really know where to report, and ask to repair bugs ... So I will

try to do it here... if it is not the right place, please kindly the guidance, where to go

to report.

I am theming now with SE TM 3.00 and with the latest SE TM 3.19 mmm.. related to the

mood...

My phone SE T650i has the Firmware : 1200-2562 R7AAO24 070718

Two bugs are in question:

1. - on the Morelist in the TM it looks ok, but on the Phone it misses some two-three

pixels on the left side, and some more, more than think five pixels on the upper size.

Looks like the morelist picture uploaded is pulled down and to the right.

But it is not, the bottom side fits exactly.

Tried to put larger picture, but then the morelist is displaced...

2. - There is some highlight missing ...

Seen it when go to the File Manager, and when wanted to move my Theme Files to the

new created Folder...

- i highlighted th file, press on the bottom : More, get the "Expand More List", highlight

the Manage File, get the "Copy-Move-Rename" small morelist, highlight the "Move"

and then obtain the Menu "Move to:" which looks like a Popup or Activity Screen...

Have the two options: Memory Stick and Phone.

But both had two lines of text and appears that there should be a Double Highlight,

as it appears in the Activity manu...

But there is not, means to say there are no highlight ...just the ugly bacground coloured

square.

when i try to add mp3 files the program prompted:

"The file list may not contain files with MIME-Types that are not supported by the device type while using combined or separate delivery"

i've peeked at the Profile\main.dpr and find it got settings for mp3.

tried on other files like text files, also doesn't work.

just work with image files...

peeked the Release Notes.txt and found:

"DRM Packager v1.34

Blocked all audio MIME types."

really confused...

further confused by trying to run older version 1.21, same problem when try to wrap an mp3 with Combined Delivery...

Hello..

got a quick question regarding theme creator pro and animated images..

it seems that there might be a bug in the software or perhaps what i'm trying to do is not possible..

i have a W800i theme w/an animated standby screen... i also have created an animated Standby Statusbar.. both images are animated gif files.. both animations show in the preview in Theme Creator, however the animated standby works fine on my phone but the animated standby statusbar does not animate.. just a static image..

also, iv'e created an animated desktop image (gif) and however it does the samething as the status bar, shows up in the preview, animated and fine, but on the phone it does not show anything... just my desktop color i've chosen...

any ideas??

FlashLite Support for P1i

Sorry to be asking this same question (in case it has already been asked), when are we getting FlashLite support for the P1i? It seems to me that SE is really not interested in supporting existing UIQ3 phones ever since the platform was phased out. I do a lot of work with my phone and the one thing that is seriously hampering me is that lack of Flash. At this point, I am considering buying another product other than an SE phone as it seems SE does not and will not listen to its customers.

K750, W800i, etc as a webcam

This has been said before about older models with a build in camera, but it is even more interest today with phones such as the W800i. Why on earth doesn't it let you use the camera as a webcam? A small clipon sold seperatly would serve to attach it to a flatscreen. It shouldn't even be difficult since the phone already supports video (although of a quality that would turn this function into just a novelty). The camera is quite good enough and the power consumtion (due to a high load on the processor) wouldn't be a problem since it would be charging at the same time.

This said, I cannot possibly imagine that this thought hasn't already been concieved by the development team, so what issues stands against such a function (and a software upgrade for the current phones, something that so rearly happens)?

3. The sound in Bluetooth handset Jabra BT620s vanishes WHILE PLAYING VIDEO.

i have currently downloaded the sony ericsson theme creator for my w810i. i have created different GIFs and JPEGs images to add to my theme using the software downloaded from this site.

everytime i try and import a gif or jpeg it says, 'themes creator could not import <filename> is this really a valid GIF file?' i click on ok then another dialog box appears saying 'invalid gif index'

i have tested this with other image files such as random gifs and jpegs that ive downloaded from the internet and they work but the ones i created dont.. would anyone know why?

i use flash 8 and photoshop cs to create my image files.. but i honestly dont think this should be an issue

Streaming audio playlists

Hi!

Is there anyone here who has experience of a generic way of streaming playlists to later 3G models of Sony Ericsson? What we are trying to do is to let users create a playlist on a mobile internet page and then be able to play back that playlist on the phone. Now, streaming single songs works like a charm but we haven't found a way of supporting playlists. The last attempt we did was sending a RAM file listing the URLs of the single tracks. The mediaplayer interprets this correctly as a mediafile but does only play the first clip in the list and then stops.

So, to my questions:

1. Is there a generic format for the playlists that I create in the native mediaplayer?

2. Can this playlist format (if it exists) only play music stored on the phone or can it reference a URL and stream content?

Would very much appreciate any feedback.

decreasing picture quality of K750i from CID36 to CID49 - cammodule differs

My old K750i got damaged, so it was changed to a new one. But what a difference in picture quality: My old K750I with the original CID 36 camera module took sharp picture without noise etc...

My new K750I is CID49 with the so called upgraded camera module took worse pictures. I chanegd firmware, camdrivers etc etc... Finally I swopped the CID 49 camera module for an older CID 36 one and using the same camera driver the picture quality is a lot better with the older camera module, but no as good as CID36 cam module in a CID36 Phone.

I took a closer look on the two cam modules and noticed that there are signifant differences: some small units (chips?) on the backside are missing on CID49 cam, while CID36 cam has more of them - do more parts leed to more picture quality??

I am very sorry that I hav a CID49 though with CID36CAM. But using Sarmad 5.8 driver quality is acceptable...

Media Exception

I am trying to record sound in W810 Sony emulator

What iam doing is trying to speak through a mike and record the same by running the midlet available at "http://developer.sonyericsson.com/getDocument.do?docId=76086"

Iam using JSR 135 for this purpose, But when i execute this command

Player player = Manager.createPlayer("capture://audio");

it gives me an exception

"javax.microedition.media.MediaException: Cannot create a DataSource for: capture://audio"

Can anybody plz tell me why this exception is occuring, Please help me

IS jsr-135 fully supported by W810 Phones. i.e is audio recording supported on these phones. Any other sony phones that support the same.

I have also tried to play a .wav file but even for that that its giving me a MediaException, Please help me on this

The image dimension for Input1 for W810 in the Theme Creator (176 x 176) is not the same as the W810 device (176 x 147).

The Theme Creator miss out the "Write New" title banner for Input1 above the input area.

W810i hiss and digital distortion problem

Is there anyone on this forum from Sony Ericsson who can give a definitive answer on the status of this problem and whether it's going to be addressed in a future firmware version? (My messages to Sony Ericsson support remain unanswered).

I assumed that a Walkman branded phone's music playback would be at least be on a par with most portable MP3 players - but the background hiss and digital distortion is horrendous. Sound quality at low volumes is simply unacceptable.

Is there any documentation available regarding the phone's audio hardware implemtation and also the format of the .apf files in the phone's "acoustic" folder?

Maybe a future firmware version could allow for third-party "audio profiles" to be loaded from memory card, thus empowering customers to tailor the audio playback to their own requirements?

I'm trying to create my own theme for my SE M600i with Themes Creator v.3.0 and I got stuck on Softkeys->Horizontal Background images.

I couldn't find closer description of softkey image format anywhere.

Two things are especially confusing:

- why are there 2 Horizontal Background images instead of 1?

- why the images are 3 or 4 times higher than the actual softkey bar? (i.e. softkey bar dimensions are 240x28, background image dimensions are 240x112 or 240x84)

I tried to create fake images to see what Themes Creator would show and found out that it ignores the smaller background completely (even if it's alone), and shows upper and lower 'rows' of the bigger background and ignores 2 middle 'rows'.

Can anyone help, please?

w850i - how to configure A2DP codec (for bluetooth stereo)?

I have an i.Tech S38 Bluetooth stereo headset. It supports A2DP. I use it with my PC through ITV Bluesoleil Software. It is possible to choose your codec: SBC or MP3. I can even configure the MP3 codec to 192 kbps. The S38 has a near-CD Quality then.

With my w850i works the S38 also seamlessly. But the sound quality is only average. Supposedly thanks to the mandatory SBC codec. Does anyone know, if I could set the phone to use MP3 codec for the A2DP Streaming instead of SBC?

Probably it´s not possible (it would be much more hardware-intensive, what a PC can deliver but not a cell phone)

Some more A2DP thoughts: maybe the phone chooses its A2DP codec according to the connected Headset. Maybe it uses ATRAC for the HBH-DS970, and only SBC for the rest 3rd party headsets. And this way it could perform acoustically much better, favouring original SE products. I would not be surprised, as I know Sony from previous "cheats" (about Ericsson I have a better opinion).

This is only an assumption, please correct me if someone knows about this better. Unfortunately I don´t posess an HBH-DS970 to do some tests.

I don't know how I can get my taken pictures on my pc, ...

I got a cable to (usb cable dcu-11), I can put files ON my phone,

but can't put files from my phone to my pc, ...

How can i do this?

(have downloaded and installed FileManager_2.5.2.0b.exe but that program doesn't seem to install correctly on my pc (windows xp))

For now on i use SendFile from christersson.org to send files to my mobile phone (but no avaibilty to download FROM phone to pc

Hi, soon Nokia will support the writing of the standard GPSInfo EXIF tags along with the other, traditional tags like date/time, exposure settings etc, when you snap a picture/create an .jpg on their phones equipped with GPS (as I've heard anyway).

This means you can sort your pictures in your PC etc. according the latitude/longitudes of the shots, not just the time and date.

Soon GPS will be a standard included feature of many SonyEricsson phones as well. Does anyone know if SonyEricsson has similar plans for multimedia geotagging? (Also this could be an optional property to show for a video or voice call, i.e. the lat/longitudes for the parties involved in the call.)

Font bug in Flash Lite player on W910i

If a FL 1.1 file containing device font text is opened on my W910i (FL 2.0), the fonts do not show up. If I open the same swf on other phones (with either 1.1 or 2.0 pre-installed), the fonts appear properly. If I republish the swf as a FL2+ swf, the fonts appear as they should.

Is this bug specific to the W910i, or does anybody with other SE FL 2+ phones experience this as well?

Hi,

I have used a number of software programs (illustrator, ikivo, etc.) to create svgt 1.1 and svgt 1.1+ files for my w810. When I import these into the theme creator for a new wallpaper they appear in the creator but not when I set them on the phone - it even asks me if i want to change the wallpaper to theme but then does not appear. I can view the svg files if i browse to them, I just can;t set them as screensaver or wallpaper. The SVG developer docs indicate quite specifically that this should be possible, am I doing anything wrong?

I am currently a third year student at the University of Teesside in the UK studying 3D computer Animation and am posting on here after a six week search for information regarding Voice recognition systems in mobile devices that upto now has proved unfruitful.

I am trying to develop a piece of software during my final year, and have had real problems finding out about the current technologies available to developers in the mobile phone industry.

Narrowed down, I need to solve three main issues; firstly, how accurate is the current voice recognition software within mobile devices? Secondly, is it possible to utilise voice recognition when constructing a piece of symbian software? If the answer is yes, then is the voice recognition software open source, or do

users/developers have to pay in order to include voice recognition in their products, or will we have to develop our own system?

Although I realise I have been brief with my questioning, I am happy to expand on any queries you may have.

Whilst I am also aware you may not have much spare time, especially to deal with queries from students, I hope that you are able to fulfil my request as I am aiming for a first class degree, and feel any information you can give me would aid me greatly in achieving this.

Basically, any and all information you could give me would be great and very much appreciated.

K800 : Midi files randomly lags in JAVE Me games

Hello, I encounter a problem with midi files in all java games on the K800. Randomly (we haven't found a precise way to trigger it) the midi file is stuck on one note for a few seconds (this seems to be random too) and then it continues where it was supposed to be.

The builds we make on the k800 don't do that on compatible devices.

Anybody has a clue on what could be the cause?

Brought brand new P1i and MMR60.

Phone is excellent but it is not working with MMR60 as it described at sonyericcson accessory compatibility list (http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=us&lc=en&ver=4000&template=pp1&view=accessories_compatible&zone=pp&pid=10864) . As soon as I connect this little device, a pop-up shown and clicking on continue button, it does nothing. The pop-up is still there. However, the device can memorize the frequecy and light settings, except tranmitting.

Any help is appreciated.

Downloading .3gp and .mp4 to k700 and P900

We have just started developing multimedia content for mobiles; starting with content for SE phones. But we have encountered a problem. We have put a couple of test files on the net, but only 1 out of our 3 test phones can down load the clips. The two phones not able to view/download the clip is P900 bought December 2003 in Norway, the second is an UK Orange branded k700i from July of this year.

The two phones just get the text files (codes of the clip) when they click on the link, interesting enough is that the only phone able to download the clips gets a message saying that the phone does not support the clip, download it anyway? We get this message even though one of the clips we try to download are recorded with the very same phone.. any ideas?

Recently bought a Z310i.

According to the bluetooth remote control program (which is a really nice feature by the way), remote control of the pc using bluetooth should be possible with the Z310. However, I can't find the option to activate the remote control on the phone. There is no entertainment->remote control and no bluetooth->remote control option.

Did they leave this option out in this phone, or is it just not standard? If not standard, how do I get it in there?

(making and transferring the .hid file is no problem)

Theme V4.1 SWF Menu Support (W810 Series)

Can anyone tell me is it possible to create .swf menu's on the W810 series (and probably other themes 4.1 phones).. I'm talking about the ones seen in themes such as the Equalizer one that is supplied as standard; where the main menu itself is completely customisable through the use of the:

  <Desktop_style Type="File" Source="equalizer.swf"></Desktop_style>

line in the XML file for the theme.

The thing is that this .SWF file is not present in the theme (even when extracting the whole .tar) and doesn't seem to be present on the handset. This makes it impossible to study what's going on there and to attempt to write my own.

Is there source for that .SWF animation available in flash format? Guidelines for using it? Or just a copy of the equaliser.swf would be a good start.

Hello Developers & consumers,

Now a days most of the mobile companies are stating about their camera-pixel resolution, but they are NOT putting much efforts on color depth improvement. For any good picture quality two primary things are must

1. Pixel resolution

2. Color depth (No. of colors)

I have observed onething, in SE's Cybershot models they are simply given better pixel resolution but there is lack of color depth. These mobiles have capability to display or even image capture depth is only 262K colors.ie.,6-bit color processing. Let me explain how this color depth will match

--> By increasing bit numbers(no.of bits per color of one pixel) it increases the picture quality. it also gives details of lower color shades. These color shades are primary pixel points to define the sharpness also.

--> Due to the 6-bit per color of one pixel(2(power)6=64)(Red,Green,Blue) it equals to just 64x64x64 = 262144 colors. It gives poor details to picture resolution by comparing the 8-bit depth picture.

So, to obtain better value to each color of pixel, at least 8-bits/color/pixel is must. Which gives 16.7million colors. Then each pixel value adds more details to picture.

Currently, SE is planning to launch K850i, which has 5-Mpixel resolution. But very bad thing is that still they are not concentrating on color depth improvement to acheive 16.7 million colors.

Gentle request to SE-developers..

I hope, there will be a chance to improve the 16.7 million colors in K810, K850 series mobiles by updating the software. Please work on this issue. If you wont do its really a big loss to K810 and K850 business market. Without 8-bit color depth what is the real significance of the picture quality. Please think of it.

Question to developer :- Asper mobile Specs, LCD display displays 262K colors. While camera capturing and storing camera image will you do just 6-bit processing or 8-bit?

I hope my analysis and requests will be considered.

I am using this version to make a theme for my W810, but there seems to be a problem with the "Row Title" part. I load my image (and it appears in the screen ok) but the preview doesn't show it, and it never appears on the phone. The image is the right size, and I have tried it as .png and .jpg.

If I open up my theme.xml, the following lines are present:

In addition, "RowTitle.jpg" is included in the .thm package. So I don't quite get why it isn't working! Is it perhaps that the resolution actually needs to be different and the theme designer is validating an invalid size so it thinks it is correct when it isn't? If so, what's the right size?

Editing Media Player for k850i

I've been playing with themes for years on my Sony phones, and the editor keeps getting better. But I'd really like to change the Media Player colors. I've noticed some of the Sony made themes have different colors in the themes, I'd like to learn how to do this.

There's one theme that has colors almost exactly the way I want but when I use the XML editor to copy the lines for Media information and paste them in my theme, then use the theme all sorts of bad things happen. First the Theme Creator (latest version) has errors and wants a "source" for every Media field, even though the theme I copied the XML from didn't have any source items for these items, and the items only change color, they don't have a picture. The only place I see in the XML using a source, involves a picture.

So I tried using the theme w/ the copied Media XML lines in it and the text in the Media player was doubled, once with the default colors and once with the color I wanted. No other colors were changed to the ones I wanted. I tried editing the theme with the XML changing images and colors to what I wanted hoping the Media Player would stay the way it was, same result.

I tried pulling the theme.xml out of my theme, adding the XML that way, then putting new theme.xml in the .tar instead of the old one... and that was really bad. For some reason it still had the default colors except the line that tells how much of the song was played and the line showing where the cursor is on the lists was blue (not the orignal colors), even though the XML I was using had those items green. Then the soft keys stopped working the way they should, I'd press the middle one and nothing would happen, or I'd press the right one and the left one would act like I pressed it, etc. Plus the directional buttons were messed up too, I'd press down and the phone would register that I pressed down and the right soft key, even though my hand was no where near any of the soft keys. I ended up having to reset my phone (which took quite a while with the screwy buttons!).

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I don't understand why the XML wants source items for something that doesn't have pictures. All I want to do is change some colors! Thanks in advance for any help!

It's clear the W850i supports A2DP but why does it fails to connect with various 3rd party bluetooth stereo headsets like the Creative CB2530 and the SL3100? And on some headsets that supports both A2DP and HFP, it'll only support HFP and not A2DP. The firmware of the phones are of the latest according to the local SE service centre CXC1250204 R1EJ001 060924 . Any ideas how to resolve such a problem? Because it's the same thing for each and every w850i that i've laid my hands on.

can someone confirm if id3v2.4 tags are correctly supported in the latest w810i firmware (dated oct 06)? i have some id3v2.4 tagged files (all latin encoding) but yet under the walkman artists list, it seems to get confused -- the artist is Stephy Tang but yet it tells me that there are artists "Stephy T" and "Stephy"

drilling down into theses artists i can see that the tracks relate to the same album

therefore can someone confirm that onyl latin encoded id3v2.3 tags are supported so far and when 2.4tags will be supported?

Considering that Themes Creator has added support for SVG, does SE have a tool that developers can use to convert SWF to SVG? Out of curiosity, I attempted to use one that comes with Blackberry's SDK (swftosvg.exe), but it doesn't work on SE phones. I can't find much info on the web - besides an online site which claimed to do it (SWF-[gt][/gt]SVG), but which no longer seems to be up and running.

I've tried Ikivo (et al.), but alas, they come nowhere close to the functionality of Flash. I'm surprised Flash doesn't offer this as an export option (even in Flash 8)

Any ideas?

I have noticed that the Vodaphone Live handsets have other icons (red-ish) instead of the colourful originals. This makes me wonder if there is any way to change the looks of the icons? It´s not a part of the things editable in Themes Creator afaik, but it would be a nifty thing to make a theme with 100% matching icons.

I don´t know if the Vodaphone Live icons change if you change themes, actually I don´t know if you can change themes on those phones even. Someone else might be able to fill me in on this.

Hi!

I'm working on an media player and I'm trying to implement seek and skip functions in it. Unfortunately it doesn't work as described by Mobile Media API (JSR-135) with 3gp either as stream or locally played. It works though with MPEG (at least under SE emulator, because it doesn't play correctly on the phone).

When I try to use setMediaTime() it doesn't complain, but it doesn't change the position either. It always returns 0 as a current position.

I tried then with mapTimeToFrame() to use methods from FramePositioningControl interface, but call to that function with absolutely correct parameter throws exception.

Has anyone idea why it is so and how to solve the problem(s)?

Allowing users to edit icons inthe main menu would allow for the ultimate synchronisation/fluidity in the theme. Some of the walkman series already has this function, but it is not editable without hacking the phone... Sure, if you really want to edit the icons, why don't you hack it? The answer to that is: too big of a risk- a 500 dollar phone won't be worth much when it is broken, right? Why won't Sony Ericsson open up this function to developers? Wouldn't it make phones more attractive to consumers?

W610i - Camera album bug

If I rename those again to something like "DSC0000..." then those will show up again....Has anyone else observed this behaviour? Is this normal with Sony? Hi,

We develop an JAVA application tha takes a picture and send it trough an SMTP server. The problem is that when we execute the instruction createPlayer() (to use the camera) , it selects the front camera and not the rear on (K600i has two cameras !). More when we want to take the picture, it does nothing. it continues to display the object we want to capture.

1. Does anyone know how to select the right camera ?

I'd like to ask if somebody could help me in resolving this problem. I have a K750i. I use it to take a picture with its camera and then to send this photo to an application on my computer for the treatment. The problem is that the compression JPEG is so high that my application (mathematical calculations) doesn't manage to deal with it. So I wanted to know if there is any method to reduce this compression (not talking about the phone parameters of picture quality "fine" "medium"etc.) or to save a picture in PNG or BMP.

I'm new to develop SonyEricsson mobile phone. Now I try to port a game from Nokia to SonyEricsson W550i. But I found getResourceAsStream("/main.mid") always return null. Besides, createImage("/mainScreen.png") also throw exception. I've checked that the resource files are in the /res directory and the file name are correct. But it seems that the api can't find the resource file. I'm using JBuilderX + SonyEricsson J2ME SDK and set my device as W600. Do anybody know why this happend. Thanks very much.

Phone hangs or crashes when a call comes in while playing streamed video

Hi all,

I have an video streaming (over RTSP) app that runs well on Sprint and many Samsung phones. I've been trying to get the same app to work on SE on Cingular.

The SE phones I've tried so far are SE W600i and W810i and the problem I'm encountering is while streaming data and playing video, if a call comes in, the phone does not prompt the user about the call, but just vibrates/rings. After that, in the best case, it allows you to exit the app, and in the worst case a reboot is needed.

W810i 3GP Converted Video's

Hi guys n gals,

Just a quick question really i have used a number of tools to convert video's to 3GP for phones, but i have found with the W810i the longer the converted video the more out of sync it gets, i ask for support from the providers of the tool i currently use and we checked every possible problem over the period of a week with no luck.

I put a small South Park clip to my phone about 15 seconds long which played fine, i then tried a larger clip about 2 minutes long and the sounds gets more out of sync as the video plays.

I have contact Sony Ericsson whom advised they would send all the settings needed for sound and video via email so i can make sure the frame rate is correct etc but i have yet to have this email and its been 2 weeks so im going to call again tomorrow.

I've downloaded the latest version of this software to create my own theme. I've taken J300 as the default mobile. But I see differences between the software and the existed themes in the mobile. For example in the Single title tab. There is a combo with 3 options Title Small, Background and highlight. I choose an image for the first one 128 x 20 pixels, and image for the second one 128 x 89. And the botton image is the image from the tag desktop, combo option softkeys (128 x 18) . If I sum the 3 sizes of the images 20 pixels + 89 pixels + 18 pixels = 127 pixels and not 128 pixels that is the screen size. Why this ocurrs?

Even thou the mediaplayer in K850 is a big upgrade from older phones it still missing some features that I use everyday in my computers. It would be nice to hear from dev team about when these can be implemented or why not.

I am wondering if there is already a decent alternative to the w900i. I don't want to part with mine soon, but the crappy fastport is killing me. The HPM80 won't stay connected, the power adapter also falls down when charging, I am all but tired of it. But I'd still like to use my w900 to listen to my music - only it doesn't support A2DP so the only option is a connected headphone, using that low quality fastport.

So I was wondering if there is a alternative to the w900i but that has A2DPP and AVRCP, the same level of graphics, and a decente photographic camera with autofocus, or if there is one planned. If it had a good calendar application it would be even better...

3. How much difference does MegaBass make?

4. Any other difference in MediaPlayer software in this phone in comparison with W series phones.

5. If any, shortcomings of phone.

I am trying to use AT commands to get a W810i to take a picture.

using AT+CKPD=":C",100 (emulate camera button for 1 second) or AT*EAPP=10,0 (start camera application) I can start the camera app.

once in the camera application:

AT+CKPD=":F",100 ( emaulate camera focus -half press for 1 second) this works

but AT+CKPD=":C",100 which should take a picture does NOT work.

any ideas?

I'm wondering what theme compatibility the W760 actually has?

From what I know the W760 uses the latest Desktop menus, which can be presented in three different ways. Wouldn't that mean it's supposed to use version 4.7 themes?

Also W760 themes made with the latest Themes Creator is identified as a version 4.7 theme in the Theme.xml.

But W760 is the only phone listed under both Themes version 4.6 and version 4.7 in the latest Developers guidelines - Themes.

If anybody could shed some light on this inconsistency it would be greatly appreciated.

Problem setting wallpaper on s700i

Hi Guys, hope someone can help.

Got a new s700i and having big problems setting my wallpaer to a picture/photo. I go to the picture, click use, then `set as wallpaer` and when I return to the desktop it hasn't changed! I tried going to settings, then display and choosing wallpaer.. then clicking picture.. and going to the picture I want but it always goes back to 'theme' as the wallpaper.

I can choose the preloaded picures but just can't use my own pics.. I don't know if its related, but I can't see a thumbnail icon for my pics either, but Gif files show as thumbnails.

Have tried everything and have used SE for years but this has me beat!... can anyone help?

[DRM Separate Delivery] Problem using SD and OMA with aac/m4a file

We need some help regarding separate delivery on SonyEricsson Walkman phones. We are working on testing our OMA separate delivery implementation and can't get it working on these SE phones at all. What happens is the following:

1. Track (aac/m4a) is packaged, sent to phone, using OMA Download, using a .dcf extension.

2. Meanwhile, rights are sent via WAP PUSH and arrive on phone.

3. Once track is finished downloading, the track is activated successfully and saved in "Sounds"

4. The files are being misinterpreted as MP3, and then won't play.

In the download descriptor, we are using the following content types according to the Sony Ericsson document Digital Rights Management (dg_drm_r5a.pdf) dated December 2005:

audio/m4a

application/vnd.oma.drm.rights+wbxml

application/vnd.oma.drm.content

Does anyone have any idea what we may be doing wrong? The file is always interpreted by the phone as an mp3 file, rather than an m4a file. Please bear in mind that the file when delivered via Combined Delivery works fine. It is interpreted as m4a. But if we try using Separate Delivery, the file is not playable.

We are testing on two phones, the w600i, and w900.

The versions of software on these phones are:

We have been trying to implement forward-locking on the Z200 (R101) for ringtones and gfx using a quot[/quot]DD[quot][/quot] file. When the phone encounters the DD, it appears to have downloaded that file (based on server logs), but the phone just sits and nothing happens.

I have a question regarding the multimedia qualities of k850i. When I see the specifications for this phone on this site, I see that it supports Macromedia Flash Lite 2.0 while k790a does not. Does it mean that we can expect to have flash menu icons like those in w810? w810 had those awesome main menu icons with different themes like emerge, orbit etc but if i transfer those themes to k790a, i dont see any changes in menu icons. Also I read somewhere that k790a does not support those icons. My question is that would k850i support those things because it says Flash Lite 2.0 in the specifications for this phone on this site?

w810i: poor camera quality?

after beeing haunted by the poor sound quality of my new w810i ("hiss bug" promised to be fixed soon, hopefully) i was forced to compare the w810i's and k750i's cameras. with my old k750i the photo quality at daylight was superb! i did expect the w810i photos to have the same quality, but unfortunately the w810i's photos are grainy. i tried all available options (picture quality normal/fine, image size, filters), but the hash prevails. is there a possibilty to get the same quality like the k750i? is this a firmware problem? or was the w810i produced with a rather bad camera (compared to the k750i)?

In details: I would like to create a video for product presentation with my MusicDJ Midi-file, using the SE samples.

Are the samples free to use ?Also commercial ?

Hi,

SonyEricsson W800i was considered as one of the first mobile phones to have Macromedia Flash support.

But unfortunately in the later firmware releases SonyEricsson removed the support for Macromedia Flash, now according to the phone specifications (white papers) it is said to be supported.

Then this has to be considered as a bug right, so where is the fix?

Hi All,

I am visually impaired and I am completely unable to read the latest version of the theme creator tools. I was able to read the first one that came out with support for the K800 (my phone) but had long since lost the copy of it. After a fair bit of googling I cannot find that version anywhere, there doesnt seem to be an archive at sony of old apps.

Anyways, I was wondering if there is a howto anywhere for mnaully creating a theme as I am happy enough to edit the XML myself but I am not sure how to "zip" the completed theme. I use ubuntu if this helps any. Is it as straightforwards as adding all the files to an archive and just name the compressed file "x.thm"?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me nuts!

i have found in the specs that one can include a stream in a wap-application like this:

The following streaming session initiation options are supported in WAP applications:

•Plain rtsp:// URL entered in the Bookmarks or Enter address dialogs

•http:// URL pointing to a .SDP file

Does that mean that I can write an rtsp:// link in my wap-site or do I have to enter the address elsewhere? What is a Bookmarks dialog?

And to the second option: Is it right that the sdp-file lies on a normal web-server and points to a 3gp file on my streaming-server?

Perhaps someone can tell me how I best include a stream in a wap-site? On click on a link it should open a stream from a real streaming-server on my handy.

Hello all, newbie here!

I've been mucking about in my newly bought W960 and I've got a fairly good overview of how it's handling different types of media. I've gathered enough info on how it stores its files, what formats it supports and whatnot (courtesy of the manual for a large part, but also just tinkering around).

What I have a but of a struggle with finding out though is how it's handling POPM (music ratings) and Moods for the tunes (mp3 only).

Why I'm even interested in this topic is because I'm into developing a plugin for a media handler that has quite extensive device support and is a good manager overall.

Since the phone is a very new toy on the market, I guess it's hard to make it run on the application just yet, so I thought I'd make a head start on it.

Is there any documentation on how the ratings are stored or does anyone on this forum have any insight on how it could be possible to retrieve and insert POPM ratings of tunes on the Walkman-series phones (most specifically the W960 in my case)? I've been doing a bit of searching on this but I haven't been able to figure anything worth mentioning out.

Also, it seems to me that SE Media Manager does not supprt synchronization of POPM ratings, am I correct?

Problems with HBH-DS970 on w950i

Hi,

Bought the HBH-DS970 along with w950i a few days back and I encountered a problem. When using the bluetooth headset to listen to music on w950i, it was simply awesome, clear and convenient. But when I tried to view video clips (mp4), the audio streamed to the DS970 was laggy, choppy, interupted and lots of static sounds.

I was running with only the video application running. When i switched to a direct connection headset (HPM-82), everything works fine.

What are the causes to this problem? I've heard of a firmware update on DS970. Can it solve this problem? And where can I get this update?

I have been reading what i hope is the specifications of H.263 (http://www.itu.int/rec/T-REC-H.263-200501-I/en) and I am confused on the following recommendation found on page 30 of dg_media_r16a.pdf;

H.263 Profile 0 level 10

Local + streaming:

QVGA@15 fps,

QCIF@30 fps, 128 kbps

The specification document seems to suggest that H.263 Profile 0 level

10 can only be QCIF or smaller and a max bitrate of 64kbs @ 15fps.

Is the document meant to have level 20? Which would allow the above

specification?

I have created a theme that is 66kb and has some jpg pictures with the right pixel size. I use the IR port on my laptop to send the theme to the t630.

So far everything works but when I try to "activate" the theme in the t630 I`ll get an error message saying "Cannot open item". What is wrong?

Can someone tell me how I can get the correct settings for Z1010 (over 3G connection) streaming of live video off of our QTSS?

I have looked around the forums, checked out the whitepapers... will this only be answered by making a support request direct and paying for this?

This is very urgent, as we have a demo to do this weekend and having read all the documentation for this and configured all the settings:

Video: MPEG-4, 176x144, 15fps, Key every 24 frames, 64kbps

Audio: MPEG-4, 8khz, 16-bit, Mono

Max packet size: 1450 bytes

Max packet duration: 100msec

Optimized for server.

Some help here would be useful. Has anyone seen this working with these settings - perhaps it`s a Telco's proxy causing problems?

Another example (not live, but encoded as above): rtsp://beaker.webziggy.net/park.3gp

This plays on the Packet Video player on the PC, and on QuickTime player... but not on the handset.

I have a sony ericsson, it plays polyphonics extremely good but nobody can heard them! It plays predifiend items quite loud but it is very silent when playing the midis I downloaded(at the 6/6 sound level). I also checked out the volume levels of midi files and all were at the loudest. I also tried t610 and it is the some silence? I am doing something wrong?

DRM Packager command line version crash

I use DRM Packager version 1.21 build 2 (according to Help menu), command line (DRMCmdLine.exe).

It seems to crash somewhat randomly depending on command line argument length. It also seems to crash if there are more than 24 media types defined in main.dpr.

Are these known issues? Is there a fix?

I've downloaded the Themes Creator v4.0 and would like to make themes for the TM506. This requires v4.7, which I am unable to find anywhere. People speak of it, I've seen themes made in it, but it doesn't seem to exist anywhere. SetMediaTime / restarting sounds

Hi,

I`m having some problems using setMediaTime to restart a player.

If I stop a sound before the end, when I come to play it next time it continues from where it was.

If I call setMediaTime it doesn't seem to do anything apart from make the sound playback really unreliable with MediaExceptions being thrown left and right, and with the sounds not playing.

Can anyone give me a hint on how to get sounds to restart reliably ? Including when setMediaTime should be called, ie what state the Player should be in....

I`m looking for a way to set the acceptance of a bluetooth pushed object (eg. a picture) on a handset to be automated. In otherwords - no pairing or explicit confirmation required. I am trying to change a theme to my liking using the themes creator. This particular theme has a really good animated (rotating) menu but it does not work on the 580i phone. It gives me the conventional grid style menu instead of the animated menu.

I could not find any settings in the phone to change the grid style menu t the rotating style.

How can I do this?

Please let me know if there are any hacks for this.

My 580i phone is from AT&T (if that helps?)

I have many music pieces stored as Ogg-Vorbis - it's just the best codec out there (in my opinion, and I have a lightning fast ogg encoder optimized for Core 2 Duo) -

so my question is: Is it possible to use Ogg on mobile phones or is developing a firmware update considered?

I have a K750i and it's my best companion and can do (almost) everything (thanks to Java) and you great guys at Sony-Ericsson!

Failed to get Snapshot after certain times of capturing (SE K618i)

I had followed the example provided in Sun Developer Network and created a image capturing application. However, after certain times of capturing, the K618 will throw "javax.microedition.media.mediaException Failed to take snapshot". You can only continue capture after restart the application. Further, this problem does not happen in a fixed frequency.

The application worked fine in K610 and I tried to use the example code of SDN and test on K618, the same problem occurred. Any one here experienced the same problem before?

I would like to know whether updating firmware will help to get rid of this problem. The current firmware is R1jG001.

Shuffle feature on W980

The shuffle feature is awkward to use and the only way to tell if I have shaken the phone correctly is to select the next track - losing the track I am playing.

Also - It doesn't appear to be a true shuffle feature as it seems to move to a random track (good) but then resumes playing the list from that track (bad).

Is there a menu option to select shuffle without going through the laborious shaking of the phone then selecting the next track to check it worked?

Is there a way to proceed through a playlist in a completely random order.

When I am driving I want to listen to the tracks randomly and consider it TOO dangerous to have to pick up the phone and start shaking it.

Shaking the phone may be a nice gimmick but it is awkward and potentially dangerous to use. It also seems to be a bit pointless to have to press the stop button and shake the phone in a particular direction to get the next track when the 'select next track' is next to the stop button!!!!!

I cannot get the volume to change no matter how I shake the phone.

But my major concern is just to get tracks to play in a random order. I got this phone as I liked the idea of the FM transmitter whle driving. Am I going to have to get an MP3 player with seperate transmitter to be able to do this??????

I do like so many features on this phone but the one feature that persuaded me to get this one over any other appears to be unworkable.

Am, I missing something?

Hi,

I am trying to download a flash file to an SE device using OMA Download.

Is this at all feasible ?

This happens:

To my K810i I can download the .swg file, but I cannot view it since this device does not support Flash.

When trying to download the same file to my W910i I get a 905 (Attribute Mismatch) as a response report code from OMA DL client.

When transfer the file manually to the W910i I can view it since this device supports Flash.

I am using the attributes

flv=video/x-flv

swf=application/x-shockwave-flash

as definition of the media object when downloading the file.

Any ideas to resolve this ?

I need help ... of course ... I can't make the P910i camera work in J2ME ... (I'm using the Sony Ericsson SDK for J2ME with it's emulator P910 ....)

By the way, it's working with others emulator from the Sony Ericsson SDK ... but not the P910.

It tells me :

Hello!

I'm not sure if this is possible at all, but maybe you will be able to help me out:

What I want to do is a software that runs in the background, ideally of the W880i I have here, and gives a permanent vibration when there are missed calls. So to say, it should be able to check the call log for missed events, and activate the vibration motor if there is something to notify the user about.

Any advice is much appreciated - thank you very much already!

Hi there! As you probably know, there are two ways of setting a ringtone (i use the s700i)


     1. ONE : press MENU[gt][/gt]SETTINGS[gt][/gt]SOUNDS [amp][/amp] ALERTS[gt][/gt]RINGTONE[gt][/gt]
                  then browse the tones and select one
     2. ONE : press MENU[gt][/gt]FILE MANAGER[gt][/gt]SOUNDS[gt][/gt]
                  then browse the tones, select one and press MORE[gt][/gt]USE[gt][/gt]SET AS RINGTONE

The FIRST time i tried to set a MP3 ringtone with method 1 it didn`t work because the mp3-files were not displayed and i was very disappointed.

But when I tried method 2 all mp3-files were displayed! So i set the File as ringtone and now I can set mp3s also via method 1!

Perhaps a software bug?

I have exported video using QT Pro and have had no problem playing a 10 MB file encoded with the following settings:

Video: MPEG4 ISMA (Advanced Simple), 320x240, 30fps, 300kbps, Automatic Keyframe, No Hinting

Audio: AAC-LC, 64kbps, 44.1kHz

A 300MB file encoded with identical settings does not open on my W950i!

Does anyone know what video formats UIQ3 supports, as the SE developer guide does not seem to have been updated for these (not so new anymore) UIQ3 models? The older guide made reference to the W900 only supporting the Simple Profile.

I'm just wondering if anyone is able to provide information on how the everchanging theme for the Sony S500 works. I understand how the .thm files work, but what I don't understand are the colour and background changes from time of day.

First of all, how does the theme know which .thm file to load at a certain time of day?

In addition to this, there are Flash Lite files. I tried to view the Flash Lite standby file and I saw only one animated graphic, however there are several based on time of day and month, so where are these located? Are they in separate .swf files, or are they just on different keyframes and depending on what date/time variables are sent to the .swf file when it's executed it will go to the correct keyframe?

Same thing goes for the Flash Lite main menu, how is it that the menu changes colour? In a similar way that I described above for the standby animation, or is it different?

Finally, with regard to both, what portion of the theme changes the lights on the side of the phone, is it the .swf files or the .thm files, or a combination of both?

As you can tell, this has me completely confused.

Using SWF for standby in W580i?

Hello everyone, I'll be the first to admit I know little to nothing about swf files but I just recently bought the 580i and trying to have some fun with it. I've tried using a .gif for teh standby but frankly the color quality isn't really want I want. So I've tried using .swf instead. I've used two different programs to create the .swf and both times when I try to input them into the theme using the theme creator, it tells me they are currupt or invalid.

I've tried doing some research but to no luck. Only thing I've found so far is the following: https://developer.sonyericsson.com/community/docs/DOC-1700,which has a tutorial for Flash Lite 1.1

I'm just wondering if anyone could point me to a tutorial or a program that is known to work in converting images to swf's. I'm trying to do one with about 10 images, is that too big of a swf file? Is there a better option then either swf or gif?

Can someone help pointing me to where I discover the max download size for the different Sony Ericsson devices (and mobile devices in general ..) - and if its held somewhere central ?

1. We know by doing tests on some Sony Ericsson, that the statement "only limited by memory" is not correct, when downloading tones over a GRPS/UMTS network - especially when using the WTP protocol.

2. We can see that i.e. the K700i seems to be limited around 200 Kbytes, and K500i around 250 Kbytes.

3. The S700i seems to cut everything above 2 Mbytes and K750 does the same above 2,887 Mbytes. However, I cant find anywhere on the internet where this is documented. Other models probably have other limitations.

4. So far we've managed our own database of device properties, but frankly moving forward I would like this solution to disappear, as its quite time consuming.

5. We also looked at using the WURFL database, but quite a few datasets for especially Nokia and Sony Ericsson is missing this data.

6. Also - the UAprof document for i.e. K700 dosent show this data in any way (that would be nice !) - http://wap.sonyericsson.com/UAprof/K700iR101.xml

I was interested to see that the white paper on the V800 / V800SE says that the phone has the Flash Lite 1.1 player. This would be standard for the Japanese phone, however the white paper suggests that the V800 has it too. If the V800 (European version) has the Flash Lite player then it would be the first phone in Europe to have the Flash Lite 1.1 Player installed in this form. Can anyone confirm what the situation is, do all version of the V800 ship with the Flash Lite 1.1 player?

ThemesCreator is now available for Linux too. Unfortunately, it references gstreamer08 from Open Source software (universe). When I attempted to verify gstreamer08 in synaptic package manager, I discovered that the current distribution was gstreamer10. The ThemesCreator Software installed correctly, but keeps calling for gstreamer08 and will not run. ThemesCreator works well in WindowsXP for me, and I would love to have it in Ubuntu also. Does anyone know of a patch or workaround? The data.cab file is password protected, so I could not try to change it.

Hi whenever i tried to create a player using "file:///c:/sounds/test.mp3" or any directory instead of "c:" using the file protocol im getting the following error.

Im using Jp7 Emulators only and all the files have been placed in appropriate directories

When i play the music via the "album " mode ,i find that the songs are sorted mainly by artist other than by track number. For example, i played the Jackson's "Bad" album, most artist tag of those songs are "Michael Jackson" , but some of them() are not only "Michael Jackson", such as "Michael Jackson;sedial....", so when i open this album, songs in it are not sorted by track number, songs of () are put back on the list, i don't know how to solve this problem as walkman3.0 doesn't include the function which can sort the list by file name or by track number...

Video conversion for P900 player

I am attempting to convert video to play on my phone. I have tried creating various formats with no success - generally get the message "cannot play clip" or something similar from the video player.

Currently, as per the white paper on this site I am converting to mp4 format 176x144 and 15 frames per second, sound in AAC format (96kbps) using Mpeg4 Direct Maker. Files play fine in Quicktime MP4 player on my PC.

The only video I have succesfully played on the P900 is the hole in one video which comes with the phone. Interestingly this appears to be at 196x144 and the format data viewed in Quicktime is garbarge.

Any ideas? Is there software known to convert to the right format?

I have an urgent question!

I have the drm packager of SE, which is great.

Using it for mp3 and sending it to a SE device works fine. I can play the mp3 on the device but I can not forward it.

Now, when I send the locked mp3, which is a .dm file to my siemens device I can forward it to other devices!

This is BAD!

Why does forward lock not work on the siemens device? This device should support OMA DRM. (The documentation says that)

My question: locking mp3 with the SE packager does only work on the SE devices or for every device supporting OMA DRM or maybe my siemens device does not understand drm?

I`m confused. OMA ist the standard language for DRM. This means SE packager should create a STANDARD .dm File which should be understood by every device.

Whats wrong? please respond!

Before you mention them, I`ve already got the iMelody v1.2 specs, EMS Developers Guide and Ringtone Developers Guide.

I`m porting a legacy program that converts RTTTL format to Ericsson and Motorola (amongst others). Both of these use iMelody within EMS messages, of course, but they appear to contradict each other slightly (but importantly). Specifically, over the persistence of lt[/lt]octave-prefix[gt][/gt] command (see p8 of iMelody v1.2). Motorola insists that an octave command only applies to the immediately, preceding note. Ericsson does not specify but appears to persist a scale change (across many notes) till the next scale change command. The legacy application follows both of these rules.

The official specs do not specify scale persistence, so it must mean single note only, but the Ericsson example (using Beethoven's 9th in the EMS Developers Guide) suggests scale change does persist.

My brain hurts.

Can anyone confirm or deny Ericsson's deviation from iMelody specs?

I want to capture an image using P900, in the following sequence:

1) Start the view finder using menu.

2) Then Capture the Image using menu.

But, I have a code provided by sony ericsson only but it works in the following sequence:

1) Start View finder and capture.

But not the above way, and surprisingly it is working on emulator in both the ways:

What I did is , I started the view finder first :

1) TRect screenRect = PrepareViewFinder();

TAny* customInterface = iCamera->CustomInterface(SonyEricsson::KCameraExtensionsUid);

if(customInterface)

Then I call Capture Image from menu But it fails in ImageReady function CFbsBitmap returns Null.

But if I follow the sequence of View Finder start and instantly capture the image it works.

I am doing all PowerOn and Reserve complete but of no avail.

I have set the most high still resolution that k800i supports:1536 x 2048 and made one snapshot via SnapshotControl.start(int) method. The snapshot is successfully done and is stored in the URL=C:/Pictures/img000.jpeg. I want the image made to be shown on the Form. Since k800i supports jsr75 (FileConnection) I create InputStream:

Connector fc = (FileConnection) Connector.open("file:///" + URL);

InputStream is = fc.openInputStream();

and create lcdui Image out of it: image = Image.createImage(is);

And oops... I encounter OutOfMemoryError!

Why this is so? Why implementation says that Camera supports this high resolution for still images when this images are actually can't be used further in the midlet?

Hi all,

I m trying to develop an application to test the supported video codecs by a mobile. I m using SE K800i for testing. The mobile is supposed to support many codecs (mp4, mpeg, h263, h264, 3gpp ..), but only mp4 and 3gpp codecs are played back correctly. Does anyone have an idea what can be the problem ? If anyone has experience in mobile video playback, and can provide me some contents, it will be very helpful to me.

video resolutions for w300 (128x160 display)

I want to know ALL the video resolutions the w300 supports please

I read the SE guidelines for local media playback and the page for best settings for video and audio, and I search and search with no luck

I been trying a lot of customs resolutions, so far I have:

108x140

...

120x140

qcif and sqcif (off course)

320x240, now this is kind of confusing, the phone recognize it as video, unlike unsuported resolutions where it says is audio only, but shows only a black screen

144, 160, 176, 192, 240, 320. all the combinations, none work except

160x144, but surprise, has a lot of frame dropping but qcif, a bit larger,

176x144, does not, I don't know why

I would appreciate very much if some kind soul could enlight me, or point me to the right docs, anything is welcome

W810i video problems!

hi guys.

have a small problem. when i play 3gp films in walkman mode, and then select fullscreen, the screen goes completely black but the sound still plays. can anyone help me? im trying to use the full screen size. its very annoying having to watch a film in 176x144 when the screen is bigger! im using imTOO dvd to 3gp.

differences between V800 and Z1010 using video

My company is developing a UM system that also support Video mail where subscribers can deposit and retrive video messages using 3G phones. The problem that we experience are that when we try to access our IP-based system using a SE V800 the gateway will never send an ack for our H.245 message OpenLogicalChannel for the RTP video stream. This is not a problem using SE Z1010 or branded phones like samsung or LG. Our system is connected through a telia ISDN connection on the telephone side and we use H.323 on our side and a Radvision GW between the both sides. I have compare the traces between two video calls to our system using Z1010 and V800. Everything seems to be OK but when we send a Open logical channel message for the video stream to the GW in the call using V800 we never receive a Ack for it and after 30 sec we close the call. We receive Open logical channel messages for both video and audio and send both.

My question is therefore if there is any known differences between V800 and Z1010 that can explain this and what can be done to make it possible to use V800 to access our system. We support H.263 for video and the GateWay support both MPEG-4 and H.263.

K700 midi audio problem after call answered

Hi,

I`m currently tearing my hair out trying to find a workaround for the problem I'm currently experiencing on the k700i, the problem is that midi music stops playing in my game after a phone call is received and answered and then the game is continued. I'm using the MMapi.

Note that if the call is rejected and the game continued the music plays afterwards without problem.

After some investigation I`ve discovered that when restarting the audio using, Player.start(); it throws a

Media message :javax.microedition.media.MediaException

javax.microedition.media.MediaException

at com.sonyericsson.mmedia.AC_ServerPlayer.doStart(+107)

at com.sun.mmedia.BasicPlayer.start(+81)

at d.c(+69)

at d.run(+22)

If the status of the player is checked just before the call to start then it returns 300 which is PREFETCHED state which indicates that everything is ready to go.

My inital thoughts think there may be a resource proble,

I've posted this problem on the j2me forum last week but had no takers so I thought I'd give it a try here, any help or advice is very very welcome.

working on apple and trying to make my own themes. The software works fine but... i have one problem.

How can i make a animated gif for a theme? is there an option in ThemesCreator wich allows me to make a animated gif.

If not, does anybody know wich software (for mac) i can use to make a gif? I used Gifscreator but get very bad color quality

Disposing of Crossfade

Hello there,

I've noticed a strange feature of the SE w810i. Without the headset plugged in, MP3 tracks in the Walkman play without crossfade between tracks. With the headset attached, the Walkman employs crossfading. The crossfading is very poorly implemented (despite the fact crossfading should not be a default option in any media player. A song starts when it starts, who are firmware authors to alter the dynamic of a song?) and often pops/cracks during the start of the fade (this is not the 'hiss' problem reported elsewhere). Since there is no option to turn this off, is there a version of the firmware that can be rolled back to (or a new one to go forward to) that doesn't use crossfading?

Also, is there any news on newer firmware versions dealing with newer ID3 tags properly?

pairing SE w810i with my car radio - bluetooth

I am new on this forum and I have one question to ask.

Recently i bought SE W810i. I wanted to connect with my bluetooth device - car radio. I had no problems with pairing them but car radio recognized my cell phone only as headset device (HSP) and not as hands free device (HSF). When i connect these two devices, I can use may cell phone only as headset (i can only reciveing phone calls andn calling the last recived call). Any idea?

Hi!

I have a few ideas for new firmwares, or new phones, and I am sure there are a lot of other people with a lot of other ideas (I saw a lot of threads about this on different forums). But I think the best effect would be to collect these ideas here. My question is how? Actually the first question is: Is SE interested in such thing? And if yes, how should we list these whish lists/feature requests?

Simply, by posting it (it will be very hard to browse them, imho) or maybe a new website (or a bugzilla like system) would be better?

Btw, a few "whishes" of mine:

- the camera cover is very usefull, I have to keep cleaning the back of the w900 when making photos

- camera shutter sound removal

- possibility to go back to normal mode from fullscreen mode in video playback (or is there already a possibility?)

- w900 - the option to remap the "Internet" button (Usually I prefer opera mini)

- the abiltiy to launch applications (even java apps) with special numbers (ie *#0#12421343# style)

- etc

I want to record a audio, but when I creat the player:"Player player = new Manager..createPlayer("capture://audio")" There is an error says:"Player cannot be created for capture://audio". I use the sony ericsson emulator. Can anyone help me?

Or can anyone show me some codes that can run, I try some codes which provides by the Forums,but it comes out the same error. Is the problem about my emulator or something else.....

HI ,

i need to buld themes for SonyEricsson C902/C702/W760 but in ThemeStuid 3.19 these deveices are not yet added. Is there any chance to know when these devices are supported by ThemeStudio or, which is better, get a version of ThemeStudio which supports these devices?

My client tried a K850 theme on the W760 but encountered some bugs, i guess this is a sign for a incompatible theme, right?

Any chance to create themes for C902/C702/W760 before they are released in Europe?

Can P1i play large files?

Hi,

P1i can have max 4GB ext., 128MB RAM, 256MB Flash RAM.

As P1i is a PDA phone compete in PDA market.

Can P1i play a media file as large as 700MB size? (e.g. 700MB .wmv)

Also for Quick Office, Can it manipulate several MB files smoothly? (e.g. 3MB .doc/ .xls/ .ppt)

Please advise.

Changing the Icons on k500

Is there a way to somehow change all the icons on k500..like the theme stuff...

Could it be that is somehow related to the firmware.I mean if it could be somehow related to firmware code...would sonyerricson have a change of heart and add options to change the icons too:)?

Themes Creator 2.0 P990 bug

Hello!

I think there's a bug with the Themes Creator 2.0.

When I save a P990i Theme and then reopen it, the images aren't there anymore. Only the colour schemes are saved but the images aren't.
